if you resist marketing in your biz - this rant is for you
This week's note is a glimpse inside my brain...straight from a personal breakthrough I worked out in my journal this morning:
After the book launch, I noticed myself feeling reticent to share anything - almost like a total marketing cleanse.
Every time I thought to share something, the words escaped me...
And then I did that thing I used to do a lot...
Watch everyone else market their stuff and feel even less like showing up.
But I've learned enough to know that letting myself be overtaken by that wave isn't it.
And, instead, entering it - with curiosity is where the real gold is waiting for me.
I woke in the middle of the night with an internal dialogue about what marketing actually is...
And excitedly scribbled these pages while the sun came up.
If you've struggled with marketing, being consistent in the ways you want to be, showing up for your business...you're going to want to read this:
The things that you have decided are "hard" cannot contradict the labels you've given to them.
Marketing is hard because you decided that it is and constructed a world in your mind to reinforce it.
And because of how the law works - it can only be true in accordance to what you have already decided.
Money works this way too, btw.
So what do we do about it?
You have to take the labels off.
The energy that creates separation from the thing you desire.
The more important something is, the bigger the signal that says, "ALERT!! This is important, Don't mess it up!"
Then you set off a series of events and energies that are focused on not messing it up.
Cue: Perfectionism & pressure, which naturally meets the label of hard.
And because you're a person of integrity - you maintain your position.
"It's hard. Marketing is hard. Money is hard. Everything is hard!"
And so it is.
The other caveat here is that if you've only known hard and have been rewarded for it - ease can feel like a threat.
Pleasure, rest, joy can feel even worse in that old paradigm.
Well, what works then?
Creating a world where the work itself offers joy and pleasure and satisfaction and a sense of your version of success.
Hard gets reoriented.
It's not about seeking or avoiding hard at all.
It's about activating the magic of being lovingly immersed in what brings you alive and making your whole entire life feel this way.
The result?
Magnetic capacity.
Really, genuinely enjoying your work.
And Money, yes, money.
Great work equals great living.
Right-sized. Aligned to you and your business.
But the challenge is, you go back and learn from people and models that you don't actually align with and label it as the thing you have to do and call it "reality," then wonder why you resist.
The resistance is you being in integrity!!!
The work is to mind your own mind.
(Read that again)
Resistance is a flashing red sign for what you need to know.
The body is a mirror - realizing even more information -showing us what the mind misses.
I want to bottom line this for you (PS - if you skipped ahead, now is the time to start reading):
Marketing is no different than teaching or coaching or speaking or writing.
It's the same exact thing.
You have made it something different, like an advanced dance routine with impossible steps you don't want to do.
This, in and of itself, is why you avoid it.
But the position that you take in your own life is your reality,
And if it's hard - it's hard.
Here's the truth:
Marketing is nothing more than the exercise of sharing your experience, your art, your humanity, your ideas, your awe and bringing people with you.
Opening the channel.
Allowing others to be inspired.
It's your own loving immersion.
Loving immersion is what saves our lives.
Creating every single day on the canvas that is your life is the answer to all of your problems, especially in your business.
The hard transmutes itself and becomes tomorrow's treasure.
So what are you excited about right now?
What spark of truth lives within that thing for you?
Marketing? Please - I have more important work to do.
Call it what you want to...
I think I will call it Magic-Making or Playing with the Universe or Honoring the Ancestors or Community with God...
Because, it turns out, it's all of that and so much more.
When you live from awe in all that you do -
When you recognize you are so not in charge - thank the holy heavens for this...
That it's so much better than you could have imagined it ever being.
That the key in the lock is the decision to create your world...
You've got it.
10/10 times "it's not working" because you're focused in the wrong direction.
You're attached at the hip to some idea about how it's gotta be...
And usually, it's outward - some sum of money you need to get you out of a jam...or make you look good to someone who won't even attend your funeral.
S'cuse me....ma'am....I have words to write and books to finish and classes to teach and worlds to create.
Marketing?
Sure.
Great.
Love it.
Give it a heartbeat, babe.
Let it fly free....
Watch how it starts to move.
