what surprised me in a recent metrics review in my business

My team and I decided to do a metrics analysis last week to decide which platforms made the most sense to focus on for the season ahead and it revealed some interesting and surprising (not surprising) things I want to share with you.

I think this process is something we often avoid as coaches/creatives, but the way it informs the model and creates direction saves us such an enormous amount of time and effort - it is one of the most important things we need to be doing.

Here's what we discovered in our process:

1. My personal content is outperforming my business content by 10x, which is affirming to me because the thing that I am always talking to my clients about and has, admittedly, been the most challenging thing for me is sharing myself and talking about the non-business things in my life.

It's honestly way easier to just talk about strategy and things you should be doing in your business than it is to say - "hey, this is me, the way I do life, the quirky, weird stuff no one asked for."

But the quirky, weird stuff about you is the stuff that makes you human and there's never been a more relevant time for us humans to be leading with our humanity. (Also, existential sidebar - I realize what a weird thing it is to feel the need to even say this, but here we are).

2. We have a 7% email conversion rate and a lifetime value of $3,000 when our group program (the one the most people have purchased) is only $1,111 annually. Now, of course, as a 1:1 coach - this number is weighted because of my private coaching clients and their investment in our work together, which is substantially higher - but there is a range of offers that I do sell (from $44 to $15K) and it's notable to highlight this number because it emphasizes the power of the long-game, relationships and the real MVP - client retention.

3. My 1:1 client roster is currently full and I am accepting wait list applications for a late September/early October start.

This one!! Making a decision to center 1:1 coaching has made my business so much simpler, the work so much deeper and my day to day decisions so much easier to make. When the model is modeling - it's not only great for revenue, forecasting and the like, but it's great for the nervous system.

And a nervous-system friendly business model IS the goal.

4. My Substack revenue is up 1600% - almost 1 out of 5 (20%) subscribers are paying members of The Signal (my paid membership on Substack) and this platform has quickly becoming a marketing engine in my business and an experiment that is proving a worthwhile endeavor.

I also just hit Substack Bestseller status and the top 40 Rising in Business charts and I'm having so much fun having a place to let my writerly self loose, in addition to launching The Signal and using the superior Substack multimedia platform (think livestreams, video, etc).

The other thing I did this year was host a 5-Day Money Codes challenge back in March that lead to a $50K launch, a ton of new subscribers and a really rich base for my Substack to grow from.

And because of this compelling data and what I know about my community - I decided to host a free 5-Day Substack Bootcamp next week!

My goal is to help you wrap your arms around the platform, make some decisions about how you might want to use it in your existing business eco-system and make some moves to get yours up and running.

It's completely free and I will be walking you through daily steps you can take to build a strong foundation over on Substack - you can join here.

I will be sharing my experience, answering questions and leading you through 5 days of activations.

When I think about the current platforms, their pros and cons, and the moves that are most relevant right now for my clients - I am coaching them on doubling down on ONE thing - relationship-building through content - read: being a real person, with real perspectives and a commitment to sharing themselves with their community.

Substack is an incredible place to do this.

And the metrics really reflect what I already know is true:

Building my model to center what I love doing most in my business is what is winning - coaching and writing, truth telling and witness work.

Approaching my business and the craft of coaching as an art form and supporting intimately in doing the same is the way.

I have been building this business for 12 years, recording weekly podcasts, sending emails and creating thousands of pieces of content and the main thing continues to be the main thing.

These data points are exciting - but what's most exciting is the impact this work has on the lives of the clients I get to support - when you keep this at the center in all that you do - success is inevitable.

PS - You do not need to have a Substack in order to participate in this bootcamp!

I'm excited to see you there!
