The gifts of simplification

We got a treadmill last week!

It was one of those purchases that I spent way too much time hemming and hawing over, but as winter began to make her arrival, I started to remember every winter before this one and all of the trials and tribs that come with New England winters.

Walking and running are my exercise of choice. Being cold is my kryptonite.

Last winter, I invested in warmer gear - fleece-lined leggings, a coat made for the Arctic and mittens that made my hands sweat.

My husband even gifted me those little rubber crampon things to put over my running shoes for our ice luge of a driveway.

I was equipped.

Except the second I got out there and tried to put the grippers on my shoes, every single thing got salty and dirty...and running with a winter parka that could double as a sub-zero sleeping bag is the opposite of aerodynamic.

Let's just say winter running isn't exactly my jam.

So here we are, I'm sitting in my warm office that now seconds as a home gym listening to my favorite meditation playlist with a candle lit before my family wakes up.

I got my run in and I even stretched(!!)

My winter workout experience gets to be exactly what I want it to be.

I feel exactly how I want to feel. <<<< And that's the grand prize, isn't it?

Gifting ourselves what is going to help us thrive and feel how we want to feel is always a good choice.

And often, the time spent in directly meeting the desire at hand rather than trying to find a cheaper stand-in or an acceptable knock-off is worth its weight in gold.

We got the treadmill we wanted and I'm psyched.

Ben is happier because running is his therapy and won't require all of the fanfare that comes the dark mornings here (headlamps, reflector vests + more).

WINS ALL AROUND!

Let this little tale be a reminder that when we gift ourselves what elevates and simplifies our lives, things change for the better.

And in the spirit of keeping things simple, we are helping our pre-planners out with a major gift (read: cash savings + support) in anticipation of opening the doors for our 12-week Born For This program experience in January.

To gifting ourselves the medicine we need most...
