stop trying. do this instead.
Over the last year, my entire life, approach to my work, beliefs and attitudes - especially about business - have changed pretty dramatically.
Flash bulb moments of clarity, episodic reminders playing on the tape in my brain, a complete surrender to alignment, new metrics leading the way...
There have been moments it has felt a little scary to watch this transformation click itself into effect, but here's the truth:
When you go through a near death experience, personally...
When you lose people you love or watch them meet the edge of their own mortality...
Everything changes.
The point becomes the actual point.
The art you leave behind starts to matter in a much more meaningful way.
Your life is the masterpiece.
Your dreams and work a holy privilege.
And the ticking clock becomes your sacred opportunity to really make it count.
Each memory is that much sweeter.
Each move you make is that much more relevant.
I watched a documentary about songwriter Diane Warren yesterday...
She's one of the most storied, prolific song writers of all-time.
She's written thousands of songs performed by some of the most incredible artists on the planet.
She's won all of the awards and her catalog is worth 1/2 billion dollars.
But what moved me the most?
The way she lives like she was "born without brakes."
The way she swore at the documentarian for asking her to explain her process.
The way her entire life is in service to her art.
The way she knows who she is and unapologetically devotes her every waking moment to being only that.
Cher said, "Diane thinks every song she writes is the best song she's ever written!"
And that's the only thing you're going to hear from me from this second forward!
Like my masterclass on Tuesday - the best one ever ever ever....mark my words.
What if every email you write, every social post, every podcast, every coaching session was the best thing you've ever created?
What if the pulse of that kind of creation was the beat you lived from?
Full-send - committing to your art...making it your life's work.
Listen, trying to win the affections of others, make the money - say the right words, sing the right melody...write the right post...obsessively rule follow, worry about hashtags and follow someone else's rules...blah blah...
It's keeping you from really living.
And, most of all, it's keeping you from really connecting in your work.
The actual most important part.
(Read that again )
I want you to stop trying so hard.
And instead, start giving from what's alive in you.
Here's an exercise to help:
1. Make a playlist of a few of your most favorite songs - pick the ones that inspire/really move you - make you cry, make you want to get up and run a marathon, call your best friend, your long lost love, etc. - the BIG ones...
2. Listen and feel.
3. Ask yourself these questions & journal on them:
What do I really want my life and legacy to be?
Why does my work matter to me so much?
What do I know I need to create, say, share right now?
People always ask me - how I grow my business, my podcast, my client roster so consistently...
The short, most honest answer I will ever you:
Tell the truth & give it everything you've got - every, single day for the rest of your life.
