How to BE YOU in an over-saturated social space

The "Do You-Be Yourself" messaging is all the rage these days.

Every where you scroll, there's a meme or an inspirational quote telling you to own it, be yourself and give zero &%$#'s about what anyone has to say about it.

It's fascinating to witness and even more so to experience firsthand, especially as it relates to creating a personal brand/business.

And here's why...

Because we live in a world where it feels like an act of rebellion to be yourself.

We live in a society that is telling us what to do with our bodies, our careers, our sexuality and everything in between.

Yet social media tells us to that in order to be successful, we have to be ourselves.

We were raised by a generation that didn't have the right to choose, who were raised by a generation before them that had even less of a right to choose.

My mother couldn't even wear PANTS to school when she was a kid!

Girls had to exclusively wear skirts and only had the option of being a majorette or cheerleader as it related to sports in high school...and this was only 50 or so years ago!

To say we've come a long way would be a massive understatement.

AND yet...we are still fighting the good fight out there.

But that's not what today's love note is about.

What we're talking about today is how we show up in our personal brands and businesses.

And how figuring out who and how to BE in our brands is the #1 challenge my clients face on a daily basis.

They ask the question, "Who do I need to be in order to be successful in my business? to grow my following? to make more money?"

But the question that lives beneath the question is really...

  • Who do I need to be for you to love me?

  • Who do I need to be for you to think I'm worthy of your attention and admiration?

  • Who do I need to be in order to matter?

Oooof.....I'll just let that one sink in for a moment.

This online personal branding space can be a slippery slope.

As I mentioned above, there is no lack of messaging as it relates to empowering us to be ourselves.

Yet, when asked the question "Who am I really?"

We get stuck and we immediately go right to strategy to figure out the answer to these questions.

We contort ourselves in to the versions we think will be Instagram worthy and we study what others are doing, praying to glean insights that help us figure out how to get more likes, grow our followings and our bank accounts to match.

We search to the ends of the interwebs for that missing ingredient and stay up all hours watching trainings to connect the dots on where we've fallen short.

And we come up falling short and feeling like we wasted our time and hard earned money to get here....still confused, still frustrated, still feeling like someone is withholding the magical keys from us on how to do this thing.

I know because I've been there too...

But what I learned, after doing all of the things is that who we are is not out there.

Who we are can be found in each breath, in the way a certain song makes our heart race and in the way we feel ourselves soften when we look in to the eyes of someone we love.

Who we are and who our businesses are calling us to be is found in the places that make us FEEL in to the depths of ourselves.

It's the places where we feel excited, enraged and enlivened enough to take action to create something that changes the world.

My greatest passion is in helping the incredible souls that I serve connect to their deepest purpose and design their lives to support this purpose.

I love holding space and creating experiences that awaken us in to the fullness of who we already are, not who we believe we need to become before we can take action.

I am a soul first, strategy second kind of coach and saying that out loud is the kind of reclamation that BEING MYSELF has lead me to be able to do.

The process I bring my clients through shifts them on a cellular level and leads them to the strategies that are much easier to implement because they feel like PLAY, instead of proving.

The strategies we implement transform their entire lives and way of being in the world, not just their bottomline.

Now it's your turn:

  • What does truly BEING you look like in your world? in your business? in your marketing? in your social media posts?

  • What gets to shift with this newfound clarity?

  • What gets to fall away?

  • What would happen if being yourself didn't have to be an act of rebellion, rather an act of reclamation?
