Business FOMO, Weather Envy + Comparisonitis

I've got a major case of the weather envy going on up here.

I'm not going to even try to sugar coat this one.

I scroll through Instagram and feel like I am being assaulted by my friends' freshly blooming gardens, flip flops and tank tops (tank tops in March?!).

All of this, while we're over here still sporting our boots with the fur and all down everything.

I've gotta be honest, this winter feels like it's firmly planted on this New England soil and it has been a challenge not to feel exponentially frustrated when I peek out the window each morning to see the ice still covering my beloved pond.

This little ripple of frustration got me thinking, immediately, about what it feels like to be an entrepreneur.

I cannot count the number of times I've felt a serious case of FOMO when the new course that I just had to have or that sparkly new collaboration between two rockstar-preneurs (I wish I was one tenth as cool as) lands on my newsfeed.

(Cue the obsessive clicking)

And you and I both know it's nearly impossible NOT to hit the "compare" button when you're watching others dazzle and perform in ways you aren't quite ready for yet.

The road to creating an online empire is a winding one.

As I felt that little twinge in my gut the other morning when I glared out the window at the ice, yet again, a profound and humbling question popped in to my brain...

What does my life actually look like when I'm fully present for the season I'm living in?

...In parenting, my career, my relationships, my body?...

It stopped me in my tracks.

It was followed by the realization that the more I live my life in fast forward, stretched so far out in to the future, the further I get from what matters most of all.

I spent last weekend doing a hard reset.

I read.

I played.

We went to the beach.

I took a bath and unplugged from the emails and the doing.

I allowed myself to take a nap(!!) and be fully present for my people and it was downright decadent.

I shifted my focus to simply being and despite the brisk chill of the late March winds...I felt the sun warming my back in a way I haven't felt in a really long time.

We went to the beach and hunted for heart shaped rocks and laughed at the dog running and barking in the waves.

We stopped at our favorite donut shop on the way home and traded in the typical weekend timeline for meandering and exploring.

As I awakened to a new week, I felt more settled within myself.

I had newfound clarity that lead me to tightening up my calendar, mapping out some exciting new things for you coming in April and I had a tea party with our girl on the living room floor after her nap.

I like the way this feels.

I like knowing that fast and furious is a choice just like intentional and fully present is too.

This weekend was a gentle and loving reminder that living in the season I'm actually in...no matter what the people on Facebook are doing...is the only way I want to live this sweet little life of mine.

So for now, I'll enjoy my boots and the melting snow for just a few more weeks for the chance to be firmly planted right where my feet are.

Now it's your turn...

What does living in the season you're in really look like?

Are you giving yourself the grace to be right where you are...in business, in motherhood, in your relationship, in your body and career?

Head on over here to share your answers with the Why Warrior Tribe.

I read every comment and take the time to personally respond.

I'll see you there.
